Petya ransomware attack

Petya Ransomware Attack – Ooops, your important files are encrypted.

Not a long time has passed after ransomware attack Wannacry and there is another ransomware threat spreading around the world – Petya Ransomware.

Petya Ransomware first appeared in 2016 targeting companies, banks and even government institutions. Currently it’s spreading mostly in Europe with Ukraine and Russia being among the top attacked countries. Once a computer is infected all its files are encrypted and requires to pay a $300 ransom in Bitcoin.

How to protect your PC against Petya Ransomware

The best way to protect yourself is to update your operating system with latest patches and to use an updated antivirus software which effectively blocks this threat.

Never open a file which looks suspicious specially if it is from an untrusted source. Regularly backup your files and store the copy outside your PC.

Unfortunately, once your files are encrypted, there is not much you can do to get them back so it is better to be safe than sorry.
